Tonel 78 Barrel Select Malbec/Bonarda
The wine transmits in its spirit the manifestation of the earth and the work of human beings. Therefore, it was decided from the beginning that the winery would only take grapes from small-scale vineyards. These are found in various regions, where fewer varieties are planted per hectare and quantity is replaced by quality in terms of expected yield, thus preserving and transmitting the values and personality of each farm.
"Asado, tango and fútbol (soccer)" are a part of our Argentinian DNA. 1978 is the year in which 23 Argentinian made history and won for the first time the World Cup. We value and pay homage to their effort and dedication to become the best.

The 2017 Tonel 78 Barrel Select isn't as closed as the 2016 I tasted last time. It is terribly balanced, very pure and integrated and more insinuating than in-your-face. This is a superb blend of Malbec and 35% Bonarda with lots of character and very good freshness. 25,000 bottles produced. Drink date: 2019-2022. Score - 93. Colour: Very intense red color, almost black. Nose: Very complex and intense. Marked notes of red fruits and black olives, perfectly integrated with notes of spices and coffee from its maturation in barrels. Palate: Wine with great body and volume on the palate. Friendly tannins. Fresh, long.
Various oenological techniques are used in the elabora tion of this wine. Fermentation in concrete tanks and micro - vinifications in small tanks. In the case of the micro- vinifications, they are mostly co-fermentations of both varieties.
Once the fermentation process has been completed the final blend is determined and it is matured in oak barrels for 12 months, where the malolactic fermentation takes place. This is a wine of great structure, aromatic intensity and complexity.
