In Alpha Zeta wines, Italy meets Britain with a Kiwi added to the mix. Italian grapes produced for the British firm, Hyperion Wines, by noted New Zealand winemaker, Matt Thomson. Their aim is to produce medium-priced wines of quality, character and style. That they have achieved their goal is evident in the number of times they have been honoured at the London International Wine Challenge. Alpha Zeta's innovative value-driven Veneto wines come from a collaboration between winemaking consultant Matt Thompson, Canadian Master of Wine and Decanter contributor David Gleave and an eager cooperative manager, Gaetano Tobin, who oversees several growers who have fantastic vineyard plots in Monteforte and Valpantena. Their mandate, to pay higher prices for grapes from low yields of fruit resulting from very specific progressive vineyard practices, has paid off.
